Manu Bhaker comforts injured Neeraj Chopra as he ends season with Diamond League silver

India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finished the season by winning silver medal in the Diamond Legaue final, missing the gold medal by just 1 cm.

With this medal, the 26-year-old continued the trend of finishing in the top two in every competition, he has participated in since winning the historic gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

It’s been three years since Neeraj Chopra finished outside of the two, and while that is an huge achievement in itself, he has it maintained this streak, despite carrying an injury.

In fact, he won the silver medal in the Diamond League held in Brussels, Belgium, despite carrying a fracture to his fourth metacrapal on his left hand.

Competing with a fracture would’ve been a major achievement for any other athlete not Neeraj Chopra. The Tokyo Olympic champion has set such high standards for himself that he was “couldn’t meet my own expectations” in Brussels.

“As the 2024 season ends, I look back on everything I’ve learned through the year - about improvement, setbacks, mentality and more. On Monday, I injured myself in practice and x-rays showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal in my left hand. It was another painful challenge for me. But with the help of my team, I was able to participate in Brussels,” Chopra wrote on X.

“This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track. While I couldn’t meet my own expectations, I feel this was a season in which I learned a lot. I am now determined to return, fully fit and ready to go. I want to thank all of you for your encouragement. 2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025. Jai Hind!” he concluded.

It was a stellar season where he won silver medal at Paris Olympics and ended with his second consecutive silver in the prestigious Diamond League.

However, Neeraj Chopra was being too hard on himself, which many of his supporters and well-wishers didn’t like, including double Olymoic medallist Manu Bhaker.

Replying to Chopra’s post, Bhaker wrote, “Congratulations @Neeraj_chopra1 on a fantastic season in 2024. Wishing you a speedy recovery and more success in the coming years.”

Like Manu Bhaker, the whole country is proud of Neeraj Chopra’s fantastic season and wishes for his speedy recovery so that he could deliver many more medals in the future.
