During a recent interview with Curly Tales, the Maharaj actress was asked to pick favourites and the two choices given to her were ukadiche modak and puran poli. Sharvari refused to pick one over the other saying, "You can't pick me to choose, both of them are my favourites" She also highlighted since this is Ganpati time there's nothing that comes over ukadiche modak.

Sharvari is not the only fan of ukadiche modak, there are many who wait for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations just to have this special treat. So this year, why not surprise your loved ones with this homemade delight? Here's an easy recipe for ukadiche modak that uses minimal, easily-available ingredients.

Recipe for Ukadiche Modak

Ingredients

1 cup rice flour

1.5 cup water

1 cup grated jaggery

1/2 cup fresh grated coconut

2 tbsp ghee

1/4 tsp  cardamom powder

1/4 tsp salt

Instructions
  • To make the stuffing, roast the coconut with ghee in a pan and then add jaggery. Keep cooking until after the jaggery has melted to form a thick and moist mixture with the coconut. Now add cardamom powder and set aside after mixing it well.
  • To make the dough add salt and ghee in water and bring it to a boil. Now add rice flour in the boiling water and mix until the water has been completely absorbed. Cover and let the mixture set for 3-5 minutes.
  • Transfer the mix into a separate bowl and with wet hands knead it until it becomes a soft dough. Once the dough is ready, start forming it into small-sized balls.
  • The easiest way to shape the modak is by using moulds, start by greasing your mould with ghee. Stuff the mould with rice flour dough while making sure you have placed a small ball-sized mixture of jaggery and coconut in the centre.
  • Scrape off the extra from the edges after tightly closing the mould. After a few seconds, gently unmould the modak without breaking.
  • Once all the modaks have been shaped, place them in a steamer for about 10 minutes or until a shiny surface appears on them.
  • Your ukadiche modaks are ready! Serve and savour!
