'Kantara Chapter 1' Box Office Opening Beats 'Sunny Sanskari…' But Fails To Take Down 'Saiyaara'
One of the most anticipated releases of the year, Kantara Chapter 1, has become one of the biggest festive releases of the year so far. The prequel to 2022 film Kantara hit the theatres on Dussehra, and showed a phenomenal response with ₹60 crore nett opening on Day 1. The film was already hyped up and with positive word-of-mouth and massive advance bookings, it could achieve such record-breaking numbers on Day 1.
According to the Sacnilk report, the Rishab Shetty film collected Rs 60 crores on Day 1, which is way higher than some of the top recent films, including Saiyaara ( Rs 22 crore), Sikandar ( Rs 26 crore), and Chhaava ( Rs 31 crore). Kantara 2 has witnessed the second largest start for a Kannada movie, after KGF: Chapter 2
Jr NTR tweeted about Kantara 2 and wrote, “Congratulations to the team of #KantaraChapter1 on scoring a resounding success. @shetty_rishab sir pulled off the unthinkable by excelling both as a mindblowing actor and a brilliant director. My best wishes to the entire cast and crew, along with @hombalefilms, for fearlessly backing Rishab sir’s vision.”
Bengaluru showed the maximum response with most shows running houseful by afternoon. It’s the Malayalam version that showed the most occupancy at 66.61%. The Hindi version, however, could manage 29.84% occupancy, which is considered impressive for a regional-language film. The film has witnessed the second-largest opening for a Kannada film in the Hindi market, trailing Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2
Rishab Shetty has made a strong comeback with Kantara: Chapter 1, a prequel to his 2022 blockbuster. Wearing multiple hats once again as writer, director, and lead actor, Shetty delves into a period mythological drama that also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles.
