Rachel Shenton has sung praises for her All Creatures Great and Small co-star Imogen Clawson for infusing life into their on-screen sisterhood, as eager viewers gear up for more of Jenny Alderson's antics in the show's fifth season.

Rachel, 36, has formed a strong bond with her younger co-star, disclosing that their off-camera camaraderie includes trips to Nando's for some quality girl time and updates on each other's lives.

Celebrating Imogen's vivacity, Rachel extolled how the actress's vibrant personality sparkles through in her portrayal of Jenny, which audiences have come to cherish.

On screen and off, the actresses share a close connection, as Rachel shared: "And we also see that Helen's sister, Jenny, has grown up quite a lot this series and is a little bit more independent. She has grown. Imogen, as a girl, is now... wow, she's like a woman, you know. She's so full of life. She's got such a colourful interior ."

She added: "I love going out with her. We always catch up at the start of the series, go to Nando's or something, and she debriefs me on everything that's going on in her life."

Rachel noted Imogen's personal growth mirrored on-screen, stating: "She's bringing that to the character this season because she herself has grown so much."

Teasing what's ahead for the sisters on screen, Rachel hinted that there's a "really nice storyline" on the horizon, with Helen and Jenny's relationship flowering parallel to their real-life progression, reports .

Rachel spilled on growing tensions between the sisters, revealing that life on the farm wasn't always easy for Helen and Jenny, who had their fair share of squabbles over differing views. Nowadays, with Helen married to hubby James Herriot, she's finding herself in a whole new ball game, leaning on Jenny as a "confidante" in her journey through the ups and downs of wedded bliss.

She dished: "You see a really nice storyline between Helen and Jenny early on in the season, where you see Jenny step away and have her own opinions that are different from Helen's, and there's a bit of friction.

"Helen has no choice but to surrender because she's in a very different position now. She does have Jimmy. She can't be as hands-on at the farm, and her voice isn't as authoritative as it once was."

On the evolving camaraderie, Rachel went on to say: "There's a bit of a dynamic shift there, and that's really interesting. It's weaved throughout the series, and we see it again at the end. That's always just nice to play with, as it's very real.

"The adjustments between both of them have gone from needing each other to just wanting each other in their lives. They've gone from Helen being in a parental role for Jenny to moving into a sort of friendship, almost as confidants. That's really nice to see."

The much-anticipated fifth series of the show, a reboot of the original 70s series, returned to screens last month amid much fanfare. The series first hit our screens in September 2020 and has since cultivated a fiercely loyal fan base.

All Creatures Great and Small airs on Channel 5, on Thursday's, from 9pm.
